I'm Jo, and prior to becoming a Professional Declutterer and Organiser, I spent over 20 years responding to humanitarian emergencies such as tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes, conflicts etc., creating order from chaos, helping save lives and alleviate suffering, all whilst being a busy parent. It was through this work that I was awarded an OBE and an Honorary Doctorate.

After leaving full-time work in the humanitarian world in 2022, and a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), I decided to focus on my third career, creating order from a different type of chaos, channelling the skills I learnt in the humanitarian world, such as project coordination, working remotely with colleagues, prioritisation and decision-making skills, as well as working under pressure at times of high stress, However, for me, those I helped in my humanitarian career often felt quite remote, whereas working with clients as a Professional Declutterer and Organiser means that I get immediate, in-person satisfaction of helping people to feel better in their environments.

My Autism means I get straight to the point and have a no-nonsense approach to decluttering and organising. What that means for you is that I tell it as it is, focusing on developing solutions that work for you and valuing your time, getting you to your desired outcome in the most efficient and effective way possible. My straight talking might not work for everyone, but my clients tell me they appreciate the direct and refreshing approach.

My neurodivergence also means I approach the process methodically, and I am practical and pragmatic with solutions. Not only do I have an exceptional attention to detail, and a love of order, but I also have a strong visual / spatial awareness that enables me to see what fits in what space. In addition, my lived-experience of neurodivergence enables me to understand the issues of poor executive function, overwhelm, inability to focus or to follow instructions that can hinder attempts to become and stay organised.

As someone who experiences the world differently, I've developed innovative approaches to organisation that work for both neurodivergent and neurotypical people alike, and I believe everyone deserves a home that supports their wellbeing. My experience as part of both the neurodivergent community has shown me how important it is to have spaces that affirm who you are. Whether you're neurodivergent yourself, or part of the LGBTQIA+ community like me, as a proud non-binary person, or simply looking for a Professional Organiser who takes a personalised, judgement-free approach, then I can help.

Put simply, for me, decluttering and organising sparks joy and I get a very deep satisfaction seeing happy people in organised homes, and so my business, Mx. Neat and Tidy was born.

I can’t recommend Jo highly enough, she is fun to work with, she guides you through everything and involves you at every point. It is a big thing open up your world to someone else and she made me feel like I was in safe hands and that meant a lot to me. Juli, Rochester
There is no house or storage problem that she can't tackle and it's always beautiful, adapted to your needs and solution focused. Lara, Walthamstow
Jo was very kind and patient with me when she helped me put in systems, organise and tidy some key areas in my flat. Three years later the systems still work! Sarah, London
